Kwik-E-Mart

To coincide with the release of The Simpsons Movie on July 27, 2007, several 7-Eleven locations across the United States received full makeovers that transformed them into real life Kwik-E-Mart stores. These converted stores were located in Burbank, California, Chicago, Illinois, Dallas, Texas, Denver, Colorado, Lake Buena Vista, Florida, Henderson, Nevada, Los Angeles, California, New York City, San Francisco, California, Seattle, Washington, Vancouver, British Columbia, and Bladensburg, Maryland. As part of the transformations, the stores changed all of their 7-Eleven signs, switched their Slurpee machines to Squishee machines, gave their employees new Kwik-E-Mart shirts (some of which have already sold on eBay for a few hundred dollars a piece), added several posters sporting some of Apu's price gouging slogans, and added a few life-sized character standees. On top of all this, these stores began selling lots of Simpsons merchandise, some of which was exclusive to the 7-Elevens during the promotion only. General merchandise included Simpsons Monopoly games, PEZ dispensers, bottle openers and t-shirts, among other things. The exclusive merchandise consisted of KrustyO's cereal, cans of Buzz cola, pink sprinkled donuts, a Radioactive Man comic book, 5 collectable Squishee cups, and 6 straws that included small magnets with characters on them. Pretty much every 7-Eleven in the country sold at least some of the exclusive merchandise, but generally the fully converted stores were the most well stocked.

Naturally, being the Simpsons nerd that I am, I had to see one of these fully converted stores before the promotion ended. Unfortunately, I lived nowhere near one. The closest was in New York City, roughly four and a half hours from my house. Still, I thought it would be worth the trip. Navigating New York City was a nightmare (although luckily I was not the one driving), but we got there eventually. Here are all the pictures I snapped inside and outside of the store:

Some typically overpriced PEZ dispensers:

I found this amusing for some reason:

Frozen Jasper in the ice container is probably one of my favorite features in the whole store:

Buzz and KrustyO's posters outside the store:

The following are the pictures of all the 7-Eleven exclusive merchandise I managed to accumulate during the promotion from both the official Kwik-E-Mart and the various 7-Elevens near where I live:

These are the 5 collectable Squishee cups, along with the regular Squishee cup to the far right, followed by individual shots of all them:

These are all five of the collectable "magnet straws" together, followed by individual shots:

These are four hand painted Simpsons cookies. I don't believe they were sold at all 7-Elevens, since I don't see them listed on the 7-Eleven website. I assume they were just a regional thing:

The front and back of the Radioactive Man comic book:

Box of KrustyO's:

Individual can of Buzz:

...and the full six-pack:
